Day 29, 19 6 2013, Lannemezan to Bagneres-de-Bigorre

Our aim today was just to get into the mid-Pyrenees, and find out the state of the flooding and what was possible.  There was a lot on TV last night about how much of this area has been designated as “rouge”, that is, an extreme danger area, and dramatic pictures of flooding.  We were planning to ride to Lourdes, but Lourdes was flooded yesterday, and the road into the Pyrenees that we had planned to use was closed.

So we rode here and the tourist information lady told us that we would be able to ride, but not the full circuit, due to the closed road.  So that is the plan tomorrow.

The country we rode through to day to get here is exquisitely beautiful, similar to country I commented on near Villefranch.  We could not see the high Pyrenees due to cloud. We could see the lower hills and valleys, with patches of dark forest and lighter green farming country, and the villages dotted along the ridge lines.

Hopefully the weather will clear as forecast and we will be able to go tomorrow.

Bagneres-de-Bigorre is a well known Tour de France centre, and will be on the route again this year.  The town has bike advertising everywhere.

38 kilometers today, including some stiff climbs.

The GPS failed again so the chart shows an approximation.
